WOW! What a race track! This was the farthest we have ever gone from home to race.
My crew chief was prepared for this track and we were fast right out of the trailer. During practice my times were as fast or faster than everyone else's. Then we qualified. I think I was turning the kart too much in turns 1 and 2 so I wasn't as fast as I could have been and qualified 16th out of 27.
The officials decided to skip second round qualifying and let everybody race so there were 27 karts in the feature. Low Country is sort of a small track so that's a lot of karts on the track at one time. We must have tried to start the race 5 or 6 times. Each time someone would spin and we would have to line up and try again. This took about 15 minutes all the while I was burning fuel. When the race finally got started I raced up to 5th place but then I started to run out of gas! Several other karts ran out of gas too. They finally stopped the race and declared the winner just to get it over with.
I think I could have won it if we didn't waste so much time in the beginning but you never know. Guess there is always next week!
